What direction is business travel heading?

The latest GBTA Business Travel Outlook Poll gives a clear view of where global business travel is heading… and at One Global, the findings closely reflect the trends we’re seeing across our client base.

Surveying more than 550 travel buyers, suppliers and TMC professionals across 40 countries, the report highlights an industry that remains resilient, forward‑looking and increasingly strategic.

Confidence remains strong – but more measured

The poll shows 59% of professionals are optimistic about the year ahead, with 31% neutral.

Optimism has dipped 12 since entering 2025 due to economic and geopolitical pressures reflecting the “confident but cautious” sentiment we hear from clients.

Budgets and volumes hold steady

Despite headwinds, most organisations are maintaining or expanding travel activity:

  • 84% expect travel spend to increase or stay level.
  • 30% predict budget growth, with 45% expecting stability.
  • 35% expect more trips, while 47% expect volumes similar to 2025.

For One Global clients, this reaffirms that travel remains a strategic driver of growth and collaboration.

But what are the top challenges which will shaping the year ahead?

The report highlights three major concerns, each directly aligned with One Global’s areas of support:

  • Affordability
Rising air, hotel and transport costs are the top concern for 70% of buyers, with that figure rising to 76% in the U.S.
Our data‑led optimisation and sourcing strategies help clients keep programmes efficient without compromising traveller experience.
  • Traveller safety and duty of care
Managing disruptions and protecting traveller wellbeing remains a priority for organisations worldwide.
One Global continues to strengthen real‑time safety insight, tracking and traveller support tools.
  • Border and Visa changes
Proposed U.S. ESTA changes concern 78% of frequent‑US‑travel organisations; 67% of European respondents say employees may avoid travel that requires more personal data sharing.
We provide clients with policy guidance, risk insight and scenario planning to stay ahead of regulatory shifts.

What next?

The industry is moving forward with stability, demand and renewed strategic focus.

At One Global, we’re helping clients navigate rising costs, shifting borders and evolving duty‑of‑care expectations – ensuring every trip is safe, efficient and delivers value.
